Recliner mechanisms work by a combination of springs, rivets, struts, and in power models, actuators.

Mechanisms fail when pressure is applied unevenly to the recliner while it is in motion. Typical failures are seen in bent metal struts or other metal parts. Once the mechanism is bent, the remedies are: 1) replace the bent piece if possible, or 2) replace the mechanism.
If the mechanism needs to be replaced,
The most accurate way to determine the extent of the problem is to have a factory mechanic on a video call. If the chair is power and the electrical components are made by Linak, see if the manufacturer has purchased OneConnect. With OneConnect, the factory will be able to connect to a phone near the chair and read the viability of each component. This will rule out any damage to the motors.
If the mechanism needs to be replaced, please follow the instructions below and give yourself about 2 hours to complete the exchange.
